Role Description:
We are seeking a visionary leader to architect and drive the development of our next-generation data platform on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This platform will serve as the backbone for our enterprise data strategy, enabling seamless integration with existing applications and facilitating both streaming and batch data processing. A key objective is to leverage this platform to deliver Gen AI capabilities, including advanced search, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and embeddings, thereby transforming data into actionable insights.
We are looking ofr our VP Data Platform Engineering and AI Enablement (M/F/D), you will be based either in Spain with access to our Madrid Office, or in UK with access to our Reading office - near London.
What your day will look like
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Define and execute the vision for a scalable, secure, and high-performance data platform that aligns with business objectives and technological advancements.
- Platform Development: Oversee the design and implementation of data pipelines and storage solutions on GCP, ensuring efficient data ingestion, transformation, and accessibility.
- Application Integration: Ensure seamless interoperability between the data platform and existing applications, supporting both asynchronous and synchronous data flows.
- AI Enablement: Develop and integrate Gen AI services, such as search functionalities, RAG, and embedding models, to enhance data utilization and decision-making processes.
- Team Leadership: Build and mentor a high-performing team of data engineers and architects, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
- Governance and Compliance: Establish robust data governance frameworks, ensuring compliance with security standards and regulatory requirements.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with stakeholders across the organization to understand data needs and deliver solutions that drive business value.
What you need to fulfill the role
- Extensive GCP Expertise: Proven experience with GCP services, including BigQuery, Dataflow, Dataproc, Cloud Storage, Pub/Sub, Cloud Composer, and Data Catalog.
- Data Architecture Proficiency: Strong background in designing and implementing data architectures, including lakehouse models and open table formats like Delta Lake or Iceberg.
- Programming Skills: Proficiency in languages such as Python, Scala, or Java, with a focus on data processing and pipeline development.
- Security Acumen: Deep understanding of data security best practices, including IAM, RBAC, and encryption methodologies.
- AI and Machine Learning: Experience in deploying AI/ML models, particularly in the context of Gen AI applications like RAG and embeddings.
- Leadership Experience: Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Strategic Thinking: Ability to align data platform initiatives with broader business goals and drive organizational change.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field.
- Industry Experience: Experience in the Financial Services industry or other highly regulated sectors.
- Certifications: Google Cloud Certified – Professional Data Engineer or equivalent certifications.
- English is a must, other language is an added value
